The term ‘woodland’ includes mixed deciduous woodland: woodland of various broadleaf species. It also includes scrub and plantations of exotic trees like pine on ancient woodland sites.

Woodlands in Bedfordshire and Luton

There are roughly 7700 ha of woodland in the county. Between 1980 and 1998 woodland cover rose by more than 1300 ha. Our most wooded areas are the Greensand Ridge and the very north of the county. However much of our new woodland is being created in the Marston Vale, south of Bedford. By 2030 3000 ha are due to be planted in this area.
