Coming soon:
our first handspun wool
We're
thrilled to announce that we'll soon have our very first handspun wool for sale.
One of the Nude Ewe's good friends is this very minute busy at his wheel
spinning us some Norfolk Horn yarn. Once critically endangered, the Norfolk Horn
has recovered but there are still few of them around. Since there wasn't enough
fleece to send to the mill, we decided that the only way to introduce you to
this lovely breed was to have it spun by hand. And what better way to celebrate
our spinner than to name the yarn after him? Nude Ewe 'James' will be a
limited-edition, white, double-knit weight wool. Keep checking our website -
we'll let you know as soon as 'James' is available!
'Speck' joins
the Nude Ewe flock!
 |
Speck comes to us from
a flock of organic Beulah Speckled Face sheep from Aston Rowant Nature
Reserve in Lewknor, Oxfordshire. Sure, it's outside our normal range but we
couldn't resist the chance to bring you this lovely light Aran weight wool,
perfect for those Irish cable jumpers! Speck is available in 50g balls
for £3.50 each. Details are available on our
Products page.
Proceeds from Speck
sales go right back to the Aston Rowant flock. Many thanks to Natural
England for supporting this new venture. |
International
Year of Natural Fibres 2009
 |
This year the world is celebrating the 30
million tonnes of natural fibres produced annually. Natural fibres include
silk, cotton, jute and of course wool! They are an important component of
clothing, upholstery and other textiles. But since the 1960s the use of
synthetic fibres has skyrocketed and natural fibres have lost their market
share.
2009
is all about bringing natural fibres back into fashion! For more information
visit the IYNF website at
